We were required to design a standard lamp for a specific purpose, for example, sewing, model making, etc. It was required that it rotate on at least 2 arcs of 360°, one horizontally and one vertically.
The initial concept generated around creating a simple, elegant form around good functionality. The opposing arcs of the stand and the arm flow into one another when the arm is positioned vertically, creating a curve. The curvature of the arm also lends itself to leaning over ones shoulder. The fact that all the wiring is contained within the structure adds to the elegance of the lamp.
