Ember Lamp

Completed: June 2006.

Briefing Summary

This brief was run in conjunction with the Eskom Lighting Competition 2006, and we were required to design some form of residential lighting. The brief allowed for tremendous freedom, which meant that we had to investigate various different types of lighting and establish relatively clear directives and goals before setting about finding a solution. Ultimately, after much consideration and exploration, I decided to design an ambient or mood light.

Comments

Establishing clear directives after sufficient research was paramount to the success of this project. Use of materials in conjunction with a reasonable interpretation of what the organizers of the competition were looking for based on previous years entries played quite a pivotal role in the final concept.

In addition to the requirements laid out by the brief, I put together a small brochure highlighting the product graphics, the completed prototype, additional concepts, and various features and benefits.
