CD Racks

Completed: July 2006.

Briefing Summary

The brief was to design five different CD racks, all using different materials, in an attempt to create an understanding of how different materials can create completely different responses in the individual.

Comments

This project was really intended to be an exploration of the connotations of materials, rather than a design media exercise. However, I decided to use the opportunity to become a bit more familiar with Flamingo, and subsequently used the program for all of the renderings pictured in this project.

The 60°'s CD rack is a wall mounted CD rack, combined with a built in CD player. It operates by rotating the outer blue casing clockwise, which pushes the CD's on the right outwards towards the user, making them easier to grasp. It is made from various injection-moulded polypropylene parts, rubber, and the CD player insert.
