Helix Point of Purchase Display

Completed: May 2005.

Briefing Summary

We were required to design a generic point of purchase display, while specifically using the process of rotational moulding. The project ran in conjunction with a competition for Ivy Blue Rotational Moulders. I came second in this competition.

Comments

When designing for the process of rotational moulding, one has a fair amount of range with regards to form or shape. I decided with this project that I would like to design something almost sculptural, something that would highlight rotational moulding as the obvious or only choice for production, and at the same time be eye-catching and exciting.

Inspired by the shape of a double helix, part of the effect that I was trying to create was the illusion of two units spiralling around one another when placed in opposition. As the display is viewed from different angles it creates the illusion of movement, furthering visual interest.
